You are what you digest
Ayur, meaning life and Veda, meaning knowledge, is a complete system of understanding life in and around us. It is considered a sister science to yoga and teaches us to live in harmony with the environment and to honour the one’s own constitution (dosha).
This science, like yoga, reflects the main Vedic idea that we must live in accordance with our unique nature and capacities, both physical and psychological. The purpose of Ayurveda is to support the Agni - the biological fire that governs our metabolism. It is also our intelligence, understanding, perception and comprehension.
As long at the Agni is working properly there is health and vitality and proper removal of toxins from the body and mind. Ayurveda gives us many tools to remove these toxins from our gut and also roots out the emotions that lays dormant in our physical /physiological layers.
For example, according to Dr. Vasant Lad repressed anger completely changes the flora of the gall bladder, bile duct and small intestine and aggravates the Agni causing inflammation.
This inflammation may show up in stomach and upper digestive tract and then eventually build up in joints as lack of mobility and leading to joint pain and arthritis.
Ayurveda offers many tools such as diet modifications, postures, breathing techniques, oil massage, herbs, and meditation, to name a few. All are relative to an individual’s body and mind. I will work with you to find and live according to your constitution.
